Start with the currency and the metal
Choose the currency in which you will actually receive or pay money. Comparing a dollar-ounce figure with a local gram buying rate hides two separate conversions. Gold and silver also have very different unit values: a silver kilogram can be a sensible retail quantity, while a gold kilogram is a substantial purchase. The currency pages below show the same underlying market reference in a clearly labelled unit. Use them to orient yourself, then compare the dealer’s actual quote for your product.
What a spot table does and does not include
Spot prices refer to fine metal. They are not a jewellery selling price, a scrap payout or an insured replacement valuation. A bar can carry a fabrication premium; a coin can have collectible value; a ring can have stone and workmanship value. Conversely, a buyer may deduct testing and refining costs from scrap. First calculate the fine-metal content, then record every commercial adjustment separately. A five-gram 750 item contains 3.75 grams of gold before excluding any non-metal parts.
Compare quotes at the same time
Two offers made several days apart may differ because the market changed, not because one buyer has a wider margin. Save the source timestamp, weight, fineness and dealer terms together. For converted currencies, exchange-rate movement adds another source of variation. The displayed percentage is a feed-window comparison; it should not be read as the precise change in a particular shop’s local selling rate. During an outage, an old timestamp or an unavailable value is a warning to obtain a fresh executable quote.

- Why can a local quote move when dollar gold is flat?
- The local-currency value also depends on the exchange rate. A currency move can change it without changing the dollar metal price.

- What does an unavailable price mean?
- A dash means a valid quote was not available. It does not mean the metal is worth zero.
