A visitor holding a gold ring does not think in troy ounces — they think "what is my 5-gram 18-karat ring worth?". A static price table makes them do the maths themselves, and most will not. The calculator does it for them: weight, purity, done. For gold buyers and jewellers this is the difference between a bounce and an enquiry, because the visitor who sees a concrete number is already half-way to walking in or filling out your form.
Weight, unit and purity
The visitor types any weight and chooses grams, troy ounces or kilograms. The purity selector covers the grades that actually circulate in Europe: 24k (99.9%), 22k (91.6%), 18k (75.0%), 14k (58.5%) and 9k (37.5%). The estimate is the weight times the live gold price times the purity factor — the market value of the pure gold content. The result updates instantly as the visitor types, with no page reload and no submit button.
Live prices, honest fallbacks
The current gold price is rendered into the widget on the server, so the calculator shows a real number on first paint, and refreshes in the background every five minutes. If the price feed is briefly unavailable the widget shows a dash instead of a wrong number and retries automatically. You can display the value in any of ten European currencies, from euros and pounds to złoty and forint.
Installing the calculator
Use the script embed if you want the calculator to size itself, or the iframe embed for fixed dimensions. On WordPress, paste the snippet into a Custom HTML block. The widget is a few kilobytes, loads no external fonts or frameworks, and carries a small attribution link to MetalflowAPI, which keeps it free.
